I’m Dan Darby, I’m one of the principals here at Darby consulting. This is a two part video series, really short videos about how to use a cloud based project management tools to plan and deliver successful IT projects. Uh, this, this part series is kind of really focused on some of the tools we use here at Darby Consulting. It’s kind of an inside look. There’s two principles that we have at Darby that really help us plan and deliver successful projects. One is focusing on transparency and the other one’s accountability and cloud based project management tools to both of those very, very well. And I want to introduce a new term in the vernacular of project management that’s called greenwashing. Greenwashing is really, if you ever seen a project status report that had a stoplight report, red, yellow, green, green meaning projects on time, on schedule within scope and red means it’s not usually what you end up seeing from a lot of project teams that are having to report up to executive sponsors, afraid to give bad news. Everything looks green until it’s not right. So that doesn’t help anybody when we’re greenwashing projects. Uh, with status reports that show everything’s okay, when behind the scenes things may not be going as well. Transparency is really important to delivering a successful project. As you can see here, this is a cloud based project management tool. It’s not very expensive. We provide it free to our clients based on any project that we’re working on. So you can access it from the desktop, any internet browser or an iPhone. It’s really awesome in that regards. As you can see here, uh, there’s, there’s no greenwashing. All of the reports here are generated based on time that’s been entered by the project team members as based on the project plan. It’s based on anything that’s been gathered in real time by the project. It’s gets spun up in terms of the cloud based dashboard that anyone see things where are. What I like about this dashboard is it shows health, time, progress, tasks, workload, costs, and other things like risk issues and changes. What I really like about this and why we chose this tool does, is it shows your health check performance metrics real quickly right there on the left. As you can see here, for this project, the project’s 11 percent behind schedule, it’s 40 percent under budget, 83 tasks to be completed. This is a project that’s not off the rails, but really needs to be monitored closely. What it shows here, as you can see, you’ve got 65 percent of the project is complete on the initiate phase and they’ve already started the plan phase. Two things I take from that is that we’re underspending our budget because we’re not getting enough tasks done and that we’re also jumping ahead from one phase to the next. That’s quick transparency that I’m able to quickly see, any sponsor can see, and start to help contribute advice, guidance, and direction to the project team to get the project back on track. That’s the power of cloud based tools and that’s the power of transparency. The next video that we’re going to include in our two part series, it’s going to focus on accountability and that’s another key aspect of a cloud based tools and so look forward to that next video coming out from us.
