Less Reporting. More Doing

Projects Need Better Measures

Today’s climate of corporate downsizing, restructuring and transformation are requiring project managers everywhere to streamline reporting processes and improve efficiency. Teams are frequently overwhelmed by requests for status updates and executive reports that take too much time to create and result in little to no change in project performance. Now more than ever, project teams need simple and straightforward performance measures that enable teams to regain focus and take action to ensure processes are both efficient and cost-effective.

What do you measure?

A recent study of organizations in the United Kingdom showed that 40% of project managers surveyed thought they led high performing teams with efficient processes that were best-in-class; however, benchmarking studies found that only 2.3% of the departments were actually best-in-class. The reason most managers today mistakenly believe their teams are performing better than they actually are is simple: you don’t know what you don’t measure.

High-performance measurement focuses less on reporting status and more on measuring the critical financial and non-financial measures that deliver continuous improvements in process efficiency and team performance.

High Performance Scorecard

There are an unlimited number of ways – both quantitative and qualitative – to measure and improve the performance of a team.  To narrow the field down to just the high performance indicators (HPIs), Darby Consulting utilizes a high performance scorecard that leads to fewer, more impactful reports, less day-to-day effort and more efficient team performance.

Start with an Assessment

Darby Consulting’s Performance Measurement Assessment provides an organization clarity on its current state of performance measurement capability and includes a combination of primary data (interviews, discussions and/or surveys) and secondary data (existing documentation) to determine where the organization’s capabilities map to the Performance Measurement Maturity Model.

A Recommendations Report is provided at the conclusion of the assessment and summarizes the current state, opportunities for improving performance measurement capability and ‘quick wins’ prioritization.
